Garden waste service renewals
If you are an existing customer then you can resubscribe by making a payment before the end of April. If a payment is not received then collections will cease and you will need create a new subscription, which will start from June 2023. Please note that space on the service is limited so you must resubscribe by the end of April to guarantee ongoing service.
New subscribers
The service is now open to new subscribers.
You can sign up now to receive the garden waste collection service, starting from June, by selecting ‘Garden Waste Collections’ from within the ‘Miscellaneous payments’ menu, you can then choose a new subscription.
All subscriptions run until the end of March each year, prices are dependent on when you sign up. Please subscribe by the end of April to ensure that your bin is delivered in time for the start of the service. Bins deliveries will commence in late May and may take up to four weeks from the date of subscription.

We are unable to accept cash payments.

The costs of the service running to March 2024 are:

The garden waste service
Havant Borough Council operates a kerbside garden waste collection service every two weeks, with a 2 week suspension over Christmas so that collection crews can assist with refuse and recycling. On joining the scheme you'll receive a brown lidded bin, and if you receive an assisted collection for your rubbish and recycling service you will automatically be eligible for assistance with the garden waste collection service.
The wheeled bin remains the property of Havant Borough Council and a charge may be applied for replacement and exchange of bins. Once an annual licence is purchased it is non-refundable, but can be transferred if you move within the Borough.
If the service is no longer required then the container can be left at the property, or made available for collection at the boundary of the property.

Collection dates
You can check your collection calendar on our Where I Live page here. Dates may change over Christmas and New Year and will be published a few weeks before. There are no planned changes in collection dates for other public holidays in 2023/24.
Garden waste bin wasn’t collected?
If your bin has been missed, please report this to us by completing our contact us form.
Missed bins must be reported by 4pm on the next working day after your scheduled collection.
What can go in the bin?
Any biodegradable waste from gardening activities at the property, including:
- grass cuttings
- hedge cuttings
- small branches
- leaves, weeds
- real Christmas trees (cut down to fit within the bin)
- prunings
- waste fruit and vegetables grown directly within the property’s garden.
What can't go in?
- Soil, concrete, rubble
- Treated wood
- Vegetable peelings
- Food scraps
- Coal, ash
- Animal waste
- Commercial waste
- General household waste and any other waste which is not household garden waste.
Waste must not be put in plastic, biodegradable or compostable sacks.
Where happens to my garden waste?
The garden waste we collect is taken to composting sites across Hampshire and is processed into a range of composts and soil conditioners, which are used in local parks and formal gardens. Composting Garden waste helps to tackle climate change and improves local soils, making it one of the easiest ways to play your part in improving our environment.
